Christopher Acosta has worked at Massage Envy - Daly City since February 2009 and is a graduate of National Holistic Institute - San Francisco (with Letter of Excellence). In school, he developed an interest in deep tissue and myofascial therapy due to its therapeutic attributes, which he is able to apply to one of his close family members who has chronic tension.
Chris' first visit to NHI was at the Emeryville campus. NHI was the most appealing school as it had the most comprehensive massage program compared to other schools he had visited. Being able to impact others' lives in a positive manner is what sparked Chris' interest in the massage therapy profession . He feels his interests in working out, martial arts, and dancing in which he has taught dance classes at Bally Total Fitness, which required him to become a Certified Group Exercise Instructor, are all intertwined and led him to have an interest in the human body and hence massage. Chris believes that learning is lifelong and is excited about the additional massage training he has yet to receive. As an NHI teacher assistant, he is able to take advantage of the advanced massage training program NHI offers its TAs. As a massage therapist, being able to dispel clients' aches and pains with therapeutic touch is his greatest reward.
What keeps Chris moving forward in his career as a massage therapist? His vision is aligned with the late Robert Noah Calvert, one of the fathers of the modern massage movement: "The application of caring human touch is an inherently innate behavior for giving and receiving love, which all humankind wants and needs. The real purpose of giving massage is to foster more depth of feeling for one another in order to bring out the love that often lies buried beneath the pain of everyday suffering." Ultimately, the connection he makes with his clients is the fuel, that is his driving force, that keeps pushing him forward.
